Dr. Chris Bacon has had a number of roles in his 20-year professional career. He has been a sports anchor, sports reporter, news photographer, news reporter, a marketing and public relations professional, and an educator.
There’s one role that links all of those titles together though: storyteller.
Now, he is using this role to help tell stories on the Nashville Stars’ LinkedIn platform.
“The city of Nashville and the Middle Tennessee region has a rich sports history,” said Bacon. “My goal is to highlight and showcase some of these stories that will link the past to our efforts in bringing a Major League Baseball franchise to Nashville.”
He also has a motto for his students at Middle Tennessee State University: “Do Work.”
He has used this motto as a framework in developing a concentration in Sports Media at the School of Journalism & Strategic Media.
“The sports industry is competitive and growing each and every year,” said Bacon. “My job in creating the Sports Media concentration was to find a way to give students hands-on opportunities in the sports industry while also providing a well-rounded education.”
That is also how Dr. Bacon became involved with Music City Baseball. He initially helped orchestrate internship opportunities for students at MTSU.
“Our students have valuable skill sets, but it’s sometimes difficult trying to find opportunities for them to showcase their skills in a professional environment,” said Bacon. “Music City Baseball has offered a wonderful chance for them to use their skills while getting valuable hands-on experience. The efforts in bringing MLB to Nashville is such a unique opportunity and I consider myself lucky that we can be a part of that.”
