April 24, 2024 – Nearly three years after finalizing the largest economic development deal in Nashville’s history, Oracle chairman and chief technology officer Larry Ellison hit a towering home run for Nashville with his announcement on Tuesday afternoon:
Oracle will be moving its global headquarters to Music City.
Ellison broke the news at an Oracle-hosted health care industry summit during an on-stage interview with former U.S. Senate majority leader Bill Frist, a Nashville surgeon and a key member of the family who founded HCA Healthcare Inc. and has led HCA to its place atop the healthcare industry.
Based on its $50 billion of annual revenue in its most recent fiscal year, Oracle will become the second-largest public company in Nashville upon its arrival — according to the Nashville Business Journal — trailing only HCA.
When Frist asked why Oracle would make such a substantial move, Ellison made it clear: “It was kind of easy.”
“We want to be in a health center,” Ellison said. “It’s the center of the industry we’re most concerned about, which is the health care industry.”
Oracle is building on its existing plan to create 8,500 jobs by 2031 with its 70-acre, $1.35 billion campus on the East Bank. Oracle has already invested $277 million to buy the land, with even greater investments to come as the vision for the headquarters development takes shape.
“We want to be in a community — and I use that word very precisely — we want to be part of a community where our people want to live,” Ellison added. “Nashville is a fabulous place to live. It’s a great place to raise a family. It has a unique and vibrant culture. Nashville ticked all the boxes of, this is where I’d love to raise a family, this is where I’d love to go to work.”
The Nashville Stars join the city of Nashville in welcoming Ellison and Oracle to Music City. Nashville checked all the boxes for Oracle and will do the same for Major League Baseball.
