February 13, 2025 – We’ve already made it through more than a month of 2025! If it feels like the year has been flying by, then Nashville International Airport (BNA) plans to fly even faster and farther, with its sights set on several major milestones this year.

That momentum comes in the wake of a record-setting year in 2024, in which BNA welcomed 24.5 million passengers — arriving and departing — while also surpassing its own record for a single day when 46,399 travelers walked through the doors.

For those driving to and from the airport, the interstate roadwork near the airport is targeting completion in the spring, which will offer an even smoother entrance and exit into and out of the airport for all travelers. The completion of that project will, in turn, facilitate the airport’s plans to add another mile to its internal roadway and triple the road’s width from two lanes to six.

BNA is targeting a July 2 opening date for its five-gate extension of Concourse D, the newest concourse at Nashville International Airport. Just like the roadway construction, the opening of the new gates will give way to an associated project: a complete demolition and subsequent rebuild of Concourse A. Currently encompassing just six gates, the A wing will more than triple in volume when its 16 gates open in 2028.

That theme of expansion is ever present on the minds of airport officials, though not solely with regard to the current terminal. Discussions for a new second terminal have been in the works, and an outside consultant will deliver its final report — described as an instruction manual for opening a second terminal — to BNA leadership later in the spring. Should the plan come to fruition, the airport targets a 2035 opening for the new terminal, which would occupy more than 300 acres of land.

All of these exciting milestones come on top of the airport’s agreements with Icelandair and Aer Lingus, with Nashville soon seeing nonstop flights depart to Reykjavík and Dublin. Once those flights begin in April, BNA will feature nonstop service to three European markets — with London joining the aforementioned pair — and is seeking to attract even more international nonstop service from Nashville.

Music City has shown an ability to meet and exceed expectations, and Nashville International Airport’s ambitions reflect its readiness to continue growing and serving our city, MLB fans and Stars fans all around the world.
