October 2, 2024 – Major League Baseball has supported Stand Up to Cancer and its programs for more than 15 years, and one of our own advisors is taking his own stand. After losing his father to cancer 10 years ago, Nashville Stars Music Industry Advisor Mitchell Tenpenny launched The 10Penny Fund, which invests in sustainable and meaningful programs that motivate cancer patients, encourage healing and build community.
“I just want to help people to prepare themselves mentally to battle cancer,” Tenpenny said. “I don’t want people to worry about the money part of that. That’s such a huge wall for so many of them, saying ‘I would get therapy or I would get help, but I can’t afford it,’ and we don’t want that. So hopefully some people’s lives are changed by just being able to talk to somebody.”
As Breast Cancer Awareness Month began this week, Tenpenny hosted the David Yurman fundraiser on Monday night, where attendees received a vinyl signed by Tenpenny with a purchase of at least $2,000, while attendees making a purchase of $10,000 or more received a signed guitar.
Tenpenny also squared off in his third-annual Cornhole Tournament on Tuesday at Sony Music Publishing. The Cornhole Tournament raised more than $142,000 across 2022 and 2023, with this year’s event adding even more to that total.
“It’s grown each year, and to have the support of the town and of the music industry means everything to me, because that’s family to me,” Tenpenny said. “That’s what we’re trying to do: take care of the world and take care of family. And to see everybody here having a great time is truly humbling.”
Merchandise supporting “The 10Penny Fund” is available to purchase at 10PennyFund.org. The Nashville Stars appreciate Mitchell’s efforts in supporting cancer patients and their families.
